What is the Shade and Fresh Water Project?

Shade and Fresh Water is a network of afterschool programs of the Methodist Church in Brazil, developed by local churches and institutions, to serve children and adolescents from 6 to 14 years of age.

Shade and Fresh Water was organized to help local churches develop socio-educational activities as an alternative for children and youth who were on the street or in at risk situations. Churches are challenged to organize out-of-school activities for children and adolescents, contributing to their physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social development. The larger purpose is to offer better living conditions for our children and youth, as well as an opportunity for them to grow into active citizens and the people that God created them to be.

Our Values

"Shade and Fresh Water" signifies a space where children and youth can experience a place of welcome, affection, citizenship, rights and integral education. In short, it is a place where they experience the Kingdom of God.

Our mission is to form a large Methodist network of support and protection for children and adolescents.

There are 6 national missionary emphases of the Brazilian Methodist Church
  • Stimulate evangelistic zeal in the lives of every Methodist and every local church;
  • Revitalize clergy and lay ministries
  • Promote discipleship in the perspective of salvation, sanctification and service;
  • Strengthen the identity, connection, and unity of the church;
  • Implement actions that involve the church in the care and preservation of the environment;
  • Promote a greater commitment and response of the church to the challenges of our urban (and rural) realities.

It is the duty of the family, community, society in general and the elected officials to ensure, with absolute priority, the realization of the rights of children and youth with regard to life, health, food, education, sports, professionalism, culture, dignity, respect, freedom and family and community coexistence.

Article 4 - (Children and Youth Bill of Rights, Brazil)

The Methodist Church affirms its Christian responsibility for the integral well-being of the human being as a result of its fidelity to the Word of God expressed in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

Starting in 2019, the Shade and Fresh Water Project is developing a partnership with World Vision to help expand our network of protection for vulnerable children and youth in Brazil. Together for Children is a World Vision Brazil platform that facilitates sponsoring a child in one of several Fresh Water Shade projects.

Resources are passed on to the project to help with educational supplies, sports equipment, Christian education materials, snacks, support for staff, psycho-pedagogical services, and more!

Because this platform was developed by World Vision Brazil, there is currently no English translation of their website. If you would like to make a donation and need help translating into English, please contact Emily Everett. (emilyaeverett@gmail.com)
